A FORMER headmaster is the new chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council. Clr. Bill Roberts, of St Ishmaels, was elected to office at the authority's annual meeting on Friday. He is the council's 12th chairman and succeeds Clr. Steve Watkins, of Nevern. Brought up in Pembroke Dock, he was educated at the former Pembroke Grammar School and for 24 years until his retirement in 1997 was headmaster of St. Ishmaels Primary School. Clr. Roberts is a former member of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and his interests include cricket and football. He is chairman of St. Ishmaels Cricket Club. Clr. Roberts was formally proposed by Clr. Rosalie Lilwall, Pembroke, and seconded by Clr. David Neale, Carew. Clr. Robin Evans, who represents Newport, was elected vice-chairman. A retired army officer and restaurateur, he was proposed for office by Clr. Watkins. The proposal was seconded by Clr. Arwyn Williams, Pembroke. A vote of thanks to the outgoing chairman was led by council leader, Clr. John Davies.
