RSPCA officers rescued a ewe and two lambs from a beach near Castlemartin last week.

The rescue took place on Thursday and dramatic footage released by the RSPCA shows the dangers faced by RSPCA officers in these situations.

The sheep were secured after officers made a steep descent to the beach followed by navigating large boulders and trapping the animals in a cave. They were placed into a special animal bag and hauled back to the headland.

As they were winched to safety, RSPCA inspector Keith Hogben had to avoid protruding rocks in order to ensure the safety of the animals. He successfully returned the sheep, but was struck by several loose rocks.

The rescue was filmed by RSPCA inspector Richard Abbot using a head cam. The rescue team included RSPCA officers Salina Chan, Keith Hogben, Andrew Harris, Richard Abbott and Rohan Barker.

RSPCA inspector Richard Abbott said: "This rescue demonstrates the RSPCA's commitment to preventing cruelty and promoting kindness. Once again the team showed great professionalism and courage in the face of considerable difficulties. "
