ON FRIDAY, April 4, Burnett's Hill Chapel in Martletwy will ring with the sounds of banjo, mandolin, cello and vocals when The Evil Sweeties give their first public performance in Pembrokeshire.

The group is made up of three graduates of Newcastle University's Folk and Traditional Music degree, and over the last year they have been causing a stir on the scene across England and Wales.

The Evil Sweeties are Jo Cooper, a former pupil at Greenhill and the only Welsh graduate of the degree course, on fiddle, banjo and voice, joined by Laura Hewison (voice, cello) and Sarah-Jane Miller (voice, flute, mandolin), both from Northumberland. They perform traditional material from the British Isles, America and wherever else inspires them. They also write their own songs, completing their eclectic repertoire to complement their intriguing style, including elements of folk, country, blues and roots.

The concert will begin at 7.30. Tickets are £6, and are available from the Pembroke Bookshop (01646 685144).
