One person taking on next month’s London Marathon will be doing so in memory of her ‘amazing nan’ Joyce Kidney late of Manorbier.
Eve Kidney is getting set to run the event which takes place on Sunday, October 2, and will be fundraising in aid of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, as part of the ‘Roy’s Runners’
“Everyone who knew Joyce knew what a kind, generous and fun-loving person she was - willing to help everyone and anyone, always going the extra mile for anyone she met,” said Eve of her nan Joyce who was advertising manager for the Tenby Observer for many years.
“Unfortunately at the age of 79 my nan died of lung cancer, a disease that affects over 46,000 people in the UK every year, so in honour of my nan and people affected by this disease, I’m running the marathon this year for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, which is the leading UK lung cancer charity solely dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease.
“Not only do they help those diagnosed with this cancer, they have funded millions of pounds of essential lung cancer research, looking for ways to detect the disease as early as possible and save lives.
“Any donations would be greatly appreciated, or even a share of this link to my just giving page would be amazing!” added Eve.

Eve’s family are no strangers to raising money for worthy causes by taking on sporting challenges, as her well known uncle, local plumber Peter Kidney took on an ‘around Caldey’ swim from Tenby and back last month, raising a magnificent amount for Prostate Cymru in the process.
After undergoing an operation back in 2021 for Prostate Cancer himself, Peter set off from Castle Beach, swimming 3 miles out from the shoreline, 2 miles round the back of Caldey Island; and 3 miles back to the beach in Tenby.
On ending the challenge, he was greeted by friends, family, supporters, as well as representatives from his chosen charity, which he has raise over £3,000 for so far.
