The Carew Youth Club met on Friday for an evening of celebrating in recognition of the achievements of the club during the past year. The leaders also welcomed friends who had come to join with them on this occasion.

The evening 'kicked' off with outdoor games of football and basketball, making use of the items that had been purchased with monies raised by the members. Following this everyone gathered inside for the presentation to take place.

Youth Club leader Mr. John Brock welcomed Mr. Mike Candler, manager of Carew Castle, and his wife Mrs. Sandra Candler. Mr. Candler had come along to present a plaque to the Youth Club for their hard-work in making the banner to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee year, depicting all the areas of special interest in the village of Carew.

Although Mr. Candler has now retired as manager at the Castle after 17 years, John took the opportunity of thank him for all he had done for the village over the years, and said that he would be very much missed by all.

John then welcomed Mrs. Eva Rich and her husband Ralph, along with 'Angie,' her guide dog. Eva had come along to present to the Youth Club a picture of the puppy that they had purchased, following a coffee evening last November to raise the money.

Eva thanked the members for their kindness in supporting the Guide Dogs for the Blind, and that this picture could now be placed on the wall, along with the other two puppies, that the Youth Club had already purchased. A name had been chosen for the youth club puppy, and this one is to be called 'Wesley.'

Mr. Darren Thomas, who had co-ordinated a team to take part in the very successful Tenby Boxing Day Swim, made the final presentation.

Twenty members of the club had braved the elements on the day, all dressed in their bright yellow club T-Shirts, raising the magnificent sum of just over £500. This picture, along with all the others, will now be placed on the wall at the Youth Centre.

A final word of thanks was given to guests and members who had made this all possible, and then in true Carew tradition there followed a cup of tea and light refreshments.
