Last year Saundersfoot’s ‘Lonely Tree’ Preservation Society were awarded funding from Saundersfoot’s Community Treasure Chest for community engagement projects centered around Saundersfoot’s ‘Lonely Tree’.

One specific project involved a series of photography competitions with set catagories to engage the Saundersfoot Community and ‘Lonely Tree supporters to take photographs of their beloved and now most famous wonder of nature, a Monterey Cypress that resides on Scar Rock on Saundersfoot Beach.

Recently the winner of the under 16s Category Emily Baker, aged 10, came a long to receive her prize along with competition runner up Lewis Ludlow aged 11. Chairman of Saundersfoot’s ‘Lonely Tree’ Preservation Society Cllr Martyn Williams BEM presented first prize of £30 to Emily Baker and £20 to Lewis Ludlow who was a most worthy runner up.

A panel of judges made up of ‘Lonely Tree’ supporters also picked winners of the adult photography competitions and they were Jane Lee and Andrew Walters, winners of the Saundersfoot resident and visitor’s potography competitions respectively. Both were awarded a cheque for £60.

Treasurer of Saundersfoot’s ‘Lonely Tree’ Preservation Society Nicky Mallen said: “our competition really began to gain momentum and interest closer to the deadline with members of Save Saundersfoot’s ‘Lonely Tree’ Facebook group enjoying seeing the finalists photographs”. She added “some members and Saundersfoot residents were also engaged in taking part in the judging process”.

Saundersfoot’s ‘Lonely Tree’ Preservation Society are indebted to Saundersfoot Community Treasure Chest for funding their recent community engagement projects.
