Secretary of State for Wales, Simon Hart MP and Parliamentary Under-Secretary State for Wales, David T.C. Davies MP joined Blue Gem Wind and the Port of Milford Haven recently to discuss progress on Wales’ and the Celtic Sea’s first floating wind farm. Their discussion highlighted the critical importance of Welsh ports in creating new low carbon, high skilled jobs.

Louise Thibierge, Supply Chain Manager at Blue Gem Wind said:

“We were delighted that the Ministers could join us and hear about the significant progress we have made on Erebus and Valorous and go into more detail on why we are focused on using a stepping stone approach to development that aims to maximise local and UK supply chain content, and, is a catalyst for port and infrastructure upgrades.”

Simon Hart, who is also MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire said:

“I was thrilled to visit Blue Gem Wind and hear about their plans for west Wales. Floating offshore wind developments will play an important role in helping us achieve our net zero ambitions, as well as generating economic growth and highly-skilled jobs in our coastal communities. The UK Government has committed up to £160 million to support new large-scale floating offshore wind ports and factories across the UK. This funding, boosted by private sector investment, will develop the infrastructure we need to mass-produce the necessary turbines and install them out at sea.”

Steve Edwards, Commercial Director, Port of Milford Haven added:

“We would like to thank the Secretary of State for visiting Pembroke Port and appreciating the scale of opportunity that floating wind in the Celtic Sea will bring to the region. Welsh ports are key to developing the necessary supply chain clusters and unlocking the socio-economic benefits from this new, green industry. We very much welcomed the opportunity to highlight current and planned collaborative development plans which seek to anchor new investment and well-paid careers to Wales.”
