Entries are now being taken for a Pembrokeshire sea swim that has established itself as an iconic open water event.

The Caldey Swim - covering the 2.5 miles between the island and Tenby - is set to take place on Sunday, August 12.

The shoal of swimmers will leave Caldey’s Priory Beach at 12.45 pm, supported by a fleet of safety craft and kayaks.

Swimming from Tenby to Caldey has been a long-established tradition for individuals and groups for many years, but 2013 was the first time the distance was covered under the umbrella of the Tenby Sea Swimming Association (TSSA), which has organised the town’s legendary Boxing Day Swim for over 45 years.

A total of £3,000 was raised by the 60 swimmers who took part, and this was shared between Tenby RNLI and Tenby Surflink.

The first swimmer home was Hayden Johns, of Tenby, who completed the crossing in 54 minutes 30 seconds.

The 100 entries for the 2018 swim went up on sale on the Tenby Caldey Swim website last Thursday to celebrate St. David’s Day.

The event has once again welcomed Princes Gate Water on board as a sponsor, together with new sponsor, Harbour Wealth Management, of Tenby, with others due to be confirmed.
