Llangwm’s fifth annual literary festival will host Count Nikolai in August.

Like the mighty Cleddau, Count Tolstoy’s power comes from two great flows; in Tolstoy’s case: Stalin and Merlin.

Tolstoy’s book ‘Stalin’s Vengeance’ is a gripping narrative of the British role in the repatriation of 30,000 Cossacks to death and deprivation in the Soviet Union at the end of the Second World War. ‘Stalin’s Vengeance’ is all the more compelling thanks to Tolstoy’s masterful use of classified Soviet archives, granted to him by Boris Yeltsin.

The second great flow of Tolstoy’s work focuses on Celtic Mythology and Merlin. This passion, kindled when Tolstoy was a young undergraduate at Trinity College, Dublin, has culminated in mastery of this subject. Tolstoy will reveal the results of his extensive research, including ancient books such as ‘The Black Book of Carmarthen’ at the Llangwm Literary Festival.

Staying with the theme of Welsh history, Llangwm is delighted to welcome American film-maker, Annette Marion. Marion will discuss the life and loves of her ancestor, the Welsh Princess Nest, and how Marion’s plans to adapt Llangwm’s own Bryan Alderson’s novel on Princess Nest into a film.
