Who hasn’t wondered at the clarity and crispiness of their footprints in the sand?

From the handprints at the Lascaux Caves in France by our remote ancestors to the masterly drawing in Rembrandt’s etchings, the printed image has always held a fascination for both artists and collectors.

This summer Narberth’s Oriel Q Gallery has gathered together an astonishing array of techniques from 50 artists, some from as far away as France and even India. The varied examples on display are used to convey images, some as delicate as gossamer while others as bold as brass. The pictures may sometimes be small, but they can pack a political punch, as in the ‘Consigment pack 26, unit 4’ by Glenn Ibbitson, reflecting the lengths to refugees will go to find freedom.

The Gallery window shows work by Artist of the Month Anna Warhus – sculptural ceramics, including work with printing on clay and glazed surfaces.

Ever wondered what a lithograph or a collagrph is? Well, here is your chance to find out. With the growth of printmaking in West Wales there are classes available in Aberystwyth, Swansea and Cardigan. For print workshops run by the gallery, look at www.orielqnarberth.co.uk
