Local volunteer group EcoDewi is promoting community activities on the St David’s Peninsula with an exciting programme of nature inspired events during June.

Organised by The Climate Coalition and led in Wales by Climate Cymru, The Great Big Green Week taking place from Saturday, June 6 to 14 - is the biggest event for climate and nature in the UK, and aims to celebrate community action tackling the climate and biodiversity crisis, and to raise awareness and inspire others to get involved.

The programme starts on June 6 with a ‘Moth breakfast’ in Trefin, with a talk by expert Dr William Wint on the wonders of the British moth, and a full day of family outdoor activities to launch the new Community Green at Maes Glasfryn in St David’s.

On Sunday, St David’s Cathedral is offering a Big Green Service from 4pm, and on Monday 8th, there’s an all-day willow weaving workshop in the community garden, Erw Dewi/Dewi’s Acre, in Cathedral Close.

An evening ‘rebel botanists’ walk at St David’s airfield near Whitchurch is on June 9 at 7pm, and the ‘People’s Emergency Briefing’ film will be shown in Solva Memorial Hall at 6.30 pm on June 10.

Two sessions on Wednesday 10th offer the opportunity to join the volunteer teams who maintain the community garden at Erw Dewi/Dewi’s Acre, and the Caeriad regenerative market garden on the way to Whitesands beach.

Back in St David’s, learn how to garden in harmony with nature on Thursday 11th at Ty’r Pererin, or join the Wildlife Day on Saturday, June 13 at Oriel y Parc for a range of inspiring events.

The Big Green Week ends with a walking trail of over 25 private gardens to visit and admire in St David’s over the weekend of 13th and 14th June.

Most events are free or by donation. The Open Gardens require a small payment for access with funds going to local causes.
