ONE of the community choirs taking part in Carew Castle’s pre-Christmas Glow event, Sing! Youth Gospel Choir delighted their audience with bold, energetic singing.
The weather outside may have been frightful, and it was true that the fire was quite delightful, but this is a castle, and the cold wind was still finding its way into the beautifully lit walls. None of that mattered, however, as these children sang, danced, actioned and signed their way through a lively programme of modern Gospel songs interspersed with a few traditional carols.

This vibrant, volunteer-run choir was set up by Diana Taylor last September with initially just six or seven children. Diana is assisted by Daniella Vince, with Jill Gibson and Barbara Ray as helpers. They have now worked with around 25 children up to this point.
Practising weekly during term time in Carew Methodist Hall (on Thursdays after school), there is no charge for the choir with its unabashed Gospel vision of “sharing Jesus through song,” as it has received some grant funding and is supported by various local churches.
Inclusive and welcoming, the choir consists of primary school, secondary school and home-schooled children - from different churches or no church. The current age range is 6-14.
It is the choir’s second year of singing at the Castle. Diana explained: “We practise at Carew so we’re on the doorstep.” The performance was well-attended; the choice of songs inspiring; the lights pretty and atmospheric. It all helped to warm the spirits on a bitter December night.
Glow - Carew Castle’s annual Christmas Illuminations - welcome visitors into a festive wonderland, filled with twinkling lights, seasonal displays, and a magical atmosphere that brings delight to guests of all ages.
In the Lesser Hall, local choirs and musical groups provide a festive soundtrack throughout each evening.
