A Pembrokeshire politician has featured in an Instagram video of Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, poking fun at the MP’s mispronunciation of his Wrexham AFC co-owner’s name.
Reynolds of Deadpool fame who took over the Welsh football club back in November 2020, with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney, released a video on the weekend wishing his friend and fellow actor a happy birthday to his Instragram profile, which has over 48m followers.
However, Reynolds saw the video as a chance to poke fun at some of the many people who have mispronounced McElhenney’s surname in the media, since the pair’s ownership of the Club became high profile through their ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary on the Disney+ streaming channel.
One of those was Conservative MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, Simon Hart, with a snippet of the politician saying “McElhenney” incorrectly in the Senedd, popping up in the video, which has had over 12 million plays on Reynolds’ Instagram account since he posted it on Friday (April 14).
Mr Hart said of Wrexham last year, that it has “a wonderful history and an exciting future”.
“I am absolutely delighted to see it awarded city status as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations,” he added.
