Pembrokeshire Libraries have teamed up with Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm in St Davids to bring an extra sprinkle of magic to this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, with an exciting surprise for young readers across the county.
To celebrate the theme of ‘Story Garden’ - the Bug Farm has generously provided 32 golden tickets.
Lucky children who discover the secretly coded books will win free entry to the Bug Farm, a unique visitor attraction combining science, nature, and farming. It’s the perfect prize for curious minds and nature lovers.
The Summer Reading Challenge is a national initiative delivered by The Reading Agency, in partnership with local libraries. Designed to keep children reading during the long summer break, the challenge encourages children to read six or more library books over the holidays. It supports literacy, sparks imagination, and helps build a lifelong love of reading.
Early birds to sign up will also receive an extra prize.
This year’s ‘Story Garden’ theme invites children to explore the magical worlds that grow from stories – and Pembrokeshire Libraries are going all out to make the experience special.

To kick off the fun, local children’s author Kerry Curson will be hosting a series of special author events at Narberth, Fishguard, and Haverfordwest Libraries to launch the challenge and inspire young readers.
Throughout the summer, full-time libraries in Tenby, Fishguard, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock will be running weekly story and craft sessions linked to the theme. These free events are a great way to keep children engaged, entertained, and learning all summer long.
Reading during the holidays helps children maintain and develop their reading skills, boost confidence, and encourages creative thinking.
