‘Our Choir Needs YOU’ is the adapted message from Field Marshal Earl Kitchener, who in his early army career was stationed at Pembroke Dock. A street name in the town remembers this famous soldier’s links.
The Choir is holding a special recruitment evening on Tuesday April 5 at St Teilo’s Church Hall, Pembroke Dock, and looks to welcome new members to its ranks, joining three new choristers who have arrived since the choir re-started weekly practices last autumn. A similar campaign in 2019 brought in nine new members.
Said choir secretary Dean Maiden: “This is an opportunity for men of all ages who believe they have a voice but have yet to try out choral singing. They can learn as they go along – very few of our members can read music.”
At the Choir’s annual meeting - held appropriately for Welsh singers on March 1 - choir members enthusiastically looked forward to returning to the stage, with several concert dates booked from April.
Chairman John Hillier praised the support of all the choristers who had returned after the long break due to covid restrictions, now with a new music team of Musical Director Juliet Rossiter and Accompanist Carole Rees.
Apart from concert dates beginning in April the choir hopes to visit a West Country choir for joint concerts later in the year.
Choir President Clive Collins, who was re-elected for a further three years, looked forward to attending as many concerts as possible. Other appointments were: Vice chairman Meurig Rees; Secretary/Treasurer Dean Maiden; Deputy Accompanist Alyson Griffiths; Librarian Huw Morgan; Website and Social Media Tony Hedley; Social Secretary Matthew John; Stage Manager and Deputy, David Halsted and David Brinn; Press Officer John Evans.
The Choir rehearses every Tuesday evening at St Teilo’s Church Hall, Pembroke Dock, opposite the Aldi store, from 7 pm.
