Preparation continues from organisers of ‘Narberth’s Outdoor Rock’ charity event that will see tribute bands Bon Giovi and Queen Don’t Stop Now take to the stage at the town’s rugby ground this weekend.
The joint committee organising the charoty event on Saturday, August 12, consists of members from the Narberth RFC and also Narberth and Whitland Rotary.
To conform to Pembrokeshire County Council’s licensing conditions, 22 Licensed Security Supervisors have been employed to maintain order by guarding the entrance, patrolling the grounds and boundaries to prevent intruders and to carry out bag checks on entry.
Alcohol or soft drinks in bottles or cans are not permitted to enter past the gates but may be left for collection after leaving the premises.
The site has been marked out with positions for the beer tent, performance marquee, stage and, sound desk.
The stadium seating for 500 is being cleaned and this includes the access ramp for disabled wheelchair users.
For the comfort of non-smokers, smoking and vaping will not be allowed in the grounds or in the stadium and clubhouse bars so the team has created an isolated designated smoking zone nearby to the entrance gates.
Gazebos will be set up for the desks for pre-sold ticket collection, walk-in ticket sales and lost property. This will be situated in the car park because for the duration of the event the public will not have parking on site – this will ensure the safety of pedestrians.
Over 1,000 tickets have been sold so far with plenty more still available for purchase online or in the RFC clubhouse.
As a courtesy for disabled motorists the committee has secured the use of the adjacent commercial garage parking area specifically for Blue Badge Holders only plus one other public facility nearby. This will be keenly monitored by security and Rotarians.
Some wheelchairs will also be available for temporary transit of those persons needing help to get the entrance gates.
Police are aware of the event and officers are anticipated to be on patrol during the busy period.
Organiser and Rotarian Ken Morgan is also grateful to one of the sub contractors on the A40 road works, C R Civil Engineering Ltd who will deliver and provide over 30 crowd control barriers to ensure safe routes through the various zoned activities.
The Rotary President Phil Thompson and RFC Chairman Rob Lewis are both delighted with the response from the public so far, and are already planning an even bigger and better show next year with the ambition to lay on three bands for improved enjoyment and value for money.
