ONE of the major figures in world music will be bringing his high-energy French-Canadian trio to Pembrokeshire next week for the latest in the series of concerts organised by the Friends of Burnett’s Hill Chapel.

A singer and squeezebox wizard, Yves Lambert is well known for his charisma on stage, and is considered a living legend when it comes to the folk music and cultural heritage of his native Quebec.

For the past 40 years he has been a driving force in taking the traditional music of his homeland beyond the Québec and Canadian borders. He is best known for his long-time association with La Bottine Souriante, having been a founding member and pillar of the acclaimed folk big band from 1976 to 2002.

Since then, either solo or with his trio, Yves Lambert has released seven albums, winning a string of accolades at the annual Canadian Folk Music Awards, including album of the year, group of the year and singer of the year. Earlier this year he was awarded the ‘Order of Canada’ for his role in the revival, modernization and promotion of traditional French-Canadian music.

His trio’s upcoming British tour – much postponed due to Covid - also features exciting multi-instrumentalists Robin Boulianne and Paul Audy. As well as headlining a number of music festivals, such as Sidmouth, the trio will also be playing a prestigious concert at the home of English folk music, Cecil Sharpe House in London, while the concert in Martletwy is their only date in Wales.

This concert is on Wednesday evening, August 3 at the Snooty Fox, near Oakwood. Tickets from 01646 651725.
