Get creative! The Torch Theatre in Milford Haven has launched a design competition for young people of all ages as preparations for this year’s festive pantomime Rapunzel get underway.

The Torch’s pantomimes always include connections to Pembrokeshire, and they are giving Rapunzel a unique West Wales spin. There’ll be hair-raising adventures at sea, friendly puffins, lighthouses, lots of ‘hair-larious’ jokes and songs and plenty of great chances to get involved.

Last year’s ‘Design a Golden Object’ competition for Jack and the Beanstalk received almost 200 entries, and in 2025 the Torch wants even more! They are looking for creative designs for one of their pantomime baddies - an evil Sea Creature.

Youth and Community Senior Manager Tim Howe said: “Under the command of the dastardly Mother Gothel, this sea creature scares and traps our heroes deep underwater. But what does it look like? It could be part octopus, shark and stingray? Or is it more like a dolphin with fangs and tentacles? Let your imaginations run wild.”

There are three age categories: Under 5s, 5-10 and 11-18. All the designs will be displayed in the theatre’s Joanna Field Gallery throughout December.

They should be on an A4 piece of paper (no bigger). Include on the back the designer’s name, school/college and contact details, then send to ‘Mother Gothel's Sea Creature Competition, Torch Theatre, St Peter’s Road, Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, SA73 2BU’ by October 10.

A winner will be chosen from each category, and the overall winning Sea Creature design will be brought to life on stage, appearing in every performance of Rapunzel with a special reference to the winning young person and their school.

Get thinking, sticking, painting, drawing and anything else you can think of to make your design stand out from the crowd. Pob lwc!
