Next Wednesday, August 25, heralds the ever-popular Martletwy Show. By kind permission of Mrs. M. D. James and Sons, the agricultural and horticultural event organised by Martletwy and District YFC will take place at The Downs, Cresselly. With a packed programme of events throughout the day, there is guaranteed to be something of interest for all members of the family at the 53rd Annual Show. A full timetable detailing the day's schedule can be found elsewhere in this special feature, but as always it is worth noting some of the highlights. Big entries are again expected in the horse section where all the usual popular classes are featured, including the Shetland category, and for the first time, a Shire horse section. The livestock section will again feature what is sure to be one of the day's highlights, the cattle team of five championship. Prize money in this event, kindly sponsored by Thomas Scourfield and Sons, is £100 for the best team and £50 for the runners-up. All horse and livestock categories will be going ahead with some extra biosecurity arrangements to meet DEFRA regulations. Competition in the various events gets underway at 9 am, with the horse section first, followed by the livestock starting at 11 am. At 1.30 pm, the renowned family pet show will be held, followed by the dog show at 2 pm. A parade of the South Pembrokeshire Foxhounds is also included. The horticultural marquee with all the usual produce and handicraft sections will open at 1.30 pm, and is sure, as always, to attract a large number of entries and a crowd of visitors. As usual, a variety of trade stands are expected to be present, with something to catch the eye of all the visitors. Refreshments and a licensed bar can also be found on the field throughout the day. A visit to the show will give an opportunity for tourists and local people to see cattle, sheep, donkeys, Shetlands and horses at close quarters and a chance to appreciate the quality of animals in the country. With the final preparations in hand, all it leaves the committee to do now is keep their fingers crossed for some good weather, so everyone can enjoy the show and a great day.
