Sir,

It has been a privilege for me to serve as Mayor of Tenby for a second time. As a 'Tenby girl' I am fully aware of not only the prestige and honour in holding such a title, but also that it carries with it a tremendous history and tradition that has played an integral part in shaping the development of this wonderful town of ours.

Also an integral part of the rich history of Tenby for over 150 years has been the presence within the town of the RNLI. Generations of Tenby's sons - and daughters - have selflessly given their time to this organisation. Many have risked their lives for those in peril on the sea, while others play an equally important role in the background co-ordinating and fund-raising.

Over the last 10 months or so I have watched with interest the ongoing construction of Tenby's new lifeboat slip and boat house. It, and the arrival of the new lifeboat, marks considerable investment by the RNLI in its future in Tenby - only recently revealed as the busiest station in the sector over the last 12 months.

I was delighted to learn of the Tea for Tenby appeal to raise money for the lifeboat station, for it presented me with an opportunity to 'do my bit' to help raise funds by hosting my own event in the Mayor's Parlour.

May I, through your columns, invite members of the public to the Mayor's Parlour today (Friday) from 2.30 pm to 4 pm for my own special Tea for Tenby event when they cannot only enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake, but also get an opportunity to view the parlour and view the civic regalia and other historical memorabilia.

Entrance will be £2 per person.

Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas,

Mayor of Tenby,

De Valence Pavilion,

Upper Frog Street,

Tenby.
