One of South Pembrokeshire's summer events has been cancelled.

Organisers of the Kilgetty/Begelly Fun Day say regretfully they are unable to run this year's festivities.

"Over the last 13 years, Mike and Kath Breen have very successfully organised the Bulldog Mile Parade and Display of Classic and Historic Vehicles, but Mike's health has rendered him unable to carry on in co-ordinating such a mammoth task," said Rose Jenkins, one of the organisers.

"We therefore must abandon this much-loved display as no-one is able to step forward and take control of this parade. To Mike and Kath, we extend our thanks so very very much for all your help over the years."

Sadly, the organisers are also having great difficulty in gaining help with the dog show which has been a fantastic newcomer to the fun day and is great fun to watch, but very demanding and tough to organise.

Added Rose: "With no help for most of the tasks and responsibilities both on the day and in the organising beforehand, we feel we must now step down and hope that in future years a younger and healthier element could help to organise a special day for the villages of Kilgetty and Begelly.

"It breaks my heart to have to give up, but my health renders me next to useless and I know I should concentrate on stress-free and calmer hobbies."

In a last ditch attempt to save the event, Leighton Harries, Sandy Smith and Keith Hamer were willing to organise the tractor parade, dog show and Pembrokeshire Scale Models if more help could be given to organising the day and helping with the demonstrations.

If anyone is willing and able to 'save the day,' they should 'phone Leighton on 07939904995 or Kingsmoor Sports Club on (01834) 813142
