The committee of the Kilgetty Autumn Show has decided with regret that due to falling support they will not be staging any further shows. They are very grateful to Texaco and Folly Farm for their financial support over a number of years, and in particular, to members of the Kilgetty Gardening Club and the Pembroke Dock and District Chrysanthemum Society for their help in putting up and dismantling the staging and for supporting the show with exhibits. A number of exhibitors have been very supportive for some years, particularly in the chrysanthemum, cooking, preserves and handicrafts sections, and thanks are due to all of them. The committee was originally formed as the horticultural section of the Tenby Horse Show and it met for the first time in April 1962 under the chairmanship of the late Mr. Herbert Mason, of New Hedges. After the closure of the Tenby Horse Show, the show continued at the insistence of Mr. Mason to raise funds for the Tenby and District Mentally Handicapped Society and shows were held for a number of years at the Avenue Centre. Subsequently, shows were held at the New Hedges Village Hall and Pentlepoir School and since the early 1980s they have been held at the RAOB Club Kilgetty, to whom thanks must be recorded for the free use of the hall, without which the show would have closed years ago. After the demise of the Mentally Handicapped Society, the show supported the Friends of the Community and latterly the Wales Air Ambulance and has raised a considerable sum for charity during its 42 years existence.
