Two packed sittings at Pentlepoir’s popular Dragon Palace celebrated the Chinese New Year in traditional style on Sunday.

And such was the demand for the festivities, another was held last night (Thursday).

Lok Cheung and his chefs carefully prepared an authentic lavish three-course banquet which was served by his friendly staff for diners to enjoy before a spectacular lion dance brought the celebrations to a rousing climax - there were even cries for an encore!

Said Lok afterwards: “We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the lion dance performances on Sunday and Thursday, to everyone in Pembrokeshire, we wish a Happy Year of the Fire Monkey, may prosperity and health follow everyone this year. Gung Hei Fat Choi (Happy New Year!).”

The lion dance was led by Jason Crabtree and his pupils of the local Kung Fu school, Lau Gar Kuen.

“They were absolutely fantastic,” added Lok, “especially Aaron Chatwin and Dafydd Huw Owens who give their absolute 100 per cent every time they dance. It’s an ideal way culturally for the Chinese to start the year and they do the lion performance proud.”

As well teaching and performing the traditional lion dance, Lau Gar Kuen have classes all around the county offering self-defence for men, women and children. Lau Gar Kung Fu is a practical, direct and effective martial art suitable for everyone, regardless of size, strength or gender.
