This week's praise and worship, with piano, guitar, drums and vocals, included a track being played from Jackie Rodda's newly-released CD. The song speaks about how Jesus is our God, doing wonders and miracles, and how we are saved by the miracle of Jesus rising from the dead, defeating sin and death.
Pastor Jonathan Fiddy continued on a similar theme to last week's, emphasising that people are the most important part of God's creation, more important than the animals. In the garden of Eden, God put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil there to give people the choice of whether to choose right or wrong. Otherwise we would just have been like robots or puppets, automatically doing what God wanted without using our own free will. Even although God knew we would make the wrong choice, He already had a plan of salvation worked out for us in Jesus His Son.
God loves each one of us so much and wants to heal, save and forgive us. Our salvation doesn't depend on us or who we are, but on who Jesus is and what He has done for us.
In Deuteronomy 28 we see how God's people of Israel had blessings on their lives when they were obedient to God's laws, but they were cursed when they were disobedient and broke God's laws. None of us is able to totally keep God's commandments because "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" (Romans 3v23). None of us is perfect - we've all done something wrong at some point in our lives. But Jesus, the only perfect man who has ever lived, God's Son, saved us from this curse of the law by choosing to become a curse for us (Galatians 3v13) and putting Himself through death for us so that we can live forever if we trust in His sacrifice for us!
As Romans 8v31 says, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" or as the Message version says, "With God on our side like this, how can we lose?"
Jonathan finished by telling of how last week God healed his toothache caused by an abcess in his mouth. Unable to go to a dentist, he prayed and asked God to heal his continuing toothache. He felt a warmth go down his face and the toothache went completely, and has not come back since! Praise God!
The service finished with Communion, followed by a few worship songs.
Everyone is welcome to join us at 10.15 am on Sundays, or 'phone Pastor Jonathan Fiddy to speak to him on 01834 871975.
