Last week's service began with a time of praise and worship led by Debbie.
Pastor Ed spoke on Revelation chapter 3, specifically the letter wrote to the Church of Laodicea. There are seven church's written to in chapter 2 and 3, they were actual churches in Asia Minor, but the significance of these letters goes beyond that. Many believe that each church represents a period of time in history.
Laodicea is widely believed to be the church that represents our current age. It was a rich area, full of well-educated people. God's message to them is not one that is easy to swallow, He says that they are neither hot or cold, 'I wish you were either one or the other, lest I spit you out'. They were too conformed to the ways of the world, and are too consumed with their earthly riches. You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.'But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
1 Peter tells us that we should care more about building treasure in heaven, where it is undefiled and beyond reach of robbers and damage then here on earth, where moth and decay deplete it. The letter finishes on a note of grace, 'Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.'
This Sunday evening at 6 pm, Steve Avery will be sharing on how as a young man, he made a deal with Satan for money, and what happened after, changed his life forever.
