"The Bible is full of promises," said Rev. Jonathan Fiddy, pastor of Emmanuel Church, Manorbier. His sermon was full of passages of scripture about the blessings promised to those who decide to follow Jesus: "We have been redeemed not with corruptible things like gold and silver, but with the precious blood of God's own son. Sin brings with it a curse: poverty; sickness; nothing going right; but Christ himself became cursed, on the cross, redeeming us so that we might become the righteousness of God. "Jesus came to destroy the works of the evil one. though rich, for our sakes he became poor, so that we might become rich. He came to bring 'the oil of joy for mourning,' 'a garment of praise instead of heaviness,' 'liberty for those in prison' and 'good news to the poor'. Salvation is a free gift; Jesus invites us to drink freely of the water of life." The pastor continued: "Psalm 25 says that the Lord has pleasure in the prosperity of his servants. In the book of Joshua, God says 'observe my law and you'll prosper in all you do,' and in Deuteronomy we read 'The Lord will open to you his good treasure. He will bless every work of your hand.' "Last Sunday, a lady was healed from a crippling pain because she believed the word of God and received his healing." Jonathan continued his talk by describing God's ultimate plan: a new heaven and a new earth reserved only for those who overcome the world; a new city of Jerusalem prepared like a bride; a time when God will "wipe every tear from their eyes." "So don't become blasé," he concluded. "Rest your hope fully on Jesus. Don't conform to your former sinful desires, but conduct yourselves in respectful awe of God."
