A large number of adults and children gathered in Manorbier on Sunday morning to praise God with lively songs and prayers of thanks, and to hear the gospel preached. The pastor, Rev. Jonathan Fiddy, read from the book of Isaiah a passage that reveals God's attitude to religion. There is no value to an outward show or meaningless rituals; the only acceptable kind of religion involves helping the outcast and needy, bringing freedom from bondage. Jonathan encouraged his listeners to practise a people-orientated gospel; one that feeds the poor, fights oppression and brings the good news about Jesus to everyone. "Jesus saves and cleanses us, body, spirit and soul," he said. "He can break every yoke of oppression; there are always miracles where Jesus is." Through Isaiah, God urged the people of Israel to honour the Sabbath "by not doing as you please or speaking idle words." He also commanded his people to do away with the pointing finger and malicious tongue. "Churches are torn apart by idle gossip and wagging fingers," continued Jonathan, "but we have to maintain the unity that is in Christ." Love covers a multitude of sins, and the church is there to restore old paths of right teaching. There is a promise of guidance, joy and blessing for those who obey these instructions of the prophet Isaiah. Emmanuel meet every Sunday at 10.15 am. The church is situated just off the Tenby to Pembroke road, on the way to the garden centre and railway station. Telephone 01834 871975 for further information.
