After a time of praise and worship, which included a mixture of carols and hymns, led by Deborah Fiddy, Pastor Edward Evans preached the word. He said that it was not what he had originally prepared, but felt strongly that the Lord had given him this message.
He began by saying that he felt it is a message that is relevant to us all. As we are entering into a new year, which promises a continuation of challenges and tough times, personally, nationally and internationally, it is important that we know that God wants us to respond differently to the world.
As the world cuts back, as it allows anxiety and fear to govern its action, and flows with the situation before its eyes, we should be reacting with faith and obedience to God, even increasing in these areas as these challenges present themselves, trusting that he is always the same, and in His ability to carry out His word no matter how bad the circumstances maybe.
Pastor Ed went on to talk about the importance of giving, and how it is sacrificial giving that gets God's attention. He mentioned how King David refused to offer God anything that was not worth something to Him. The poor widow who gave the very little she had, got Jesus attention, even though many other people were giving far larger amounts of money and valuables. He saw the sacrifice of her giving.
When we give our tithe, of our time, of our love, it is important that we give sacrificially, beyond what we can comfortably give, as this is pleasing to God. This takes faith, and without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).
We have two Christmas carol services on Sunday, at 10.30 am and 6 pm, followed by mince pies and mulled wine. All our welcome, and bring a friend!
