Praise has been given to a Saundersfoot dad and daughter after completing a Bank Holiday beach clean across the local area.
Emily Batty along with her father Simon completed a six-mile litter pick on the weekend taking in Wisemans Bridge, Coppet Hall, Saundersfoot and Glen Beach as a final fundraising challenge towards her Raleigh International expedition to Costa Rica.
Next month, Emily will be joining Raleigh International in Costa Rica to take part in their environmental/community work.
Raleigh International aid in building resilience in communities, protecting fragile environments as well as providing access to safe water and sanitation.
The organisation challenges and inspires young volunteers from around the world to work with communities living in poverty.
With Emily well on her way to raising her target of £2,250 for Raleigh’s work, all fundraising goes direct to the environmental and community projects in Costa Rica, with Emily paying towards her travel, Covid tests and vaccines herself.
“I also did this litter pick as I wanted to give back to Saundersfoot after the amazing local support I received when I completed my marathon around the village,” she said.
“Also, I wanted to raise awareness of plastic pollution and litter on our coast paths and beaches,” explained Emily, who sells sea glass necklaces at baybeads.co.uk with 100 per cent of the profits currently going towards charity - with 99p going to Project AWARE as normal (an organisation that supports clean and healthy oceans and reefs) and £8 to Raleigh International.
Thanks from the pair also went to Saundersfoot county councillor Phil Baker for organising the litter pick equipment.
