After weeks of anxious waiting, students at Pembroke School picked up their A-Level results yesterday (Thursday).

And it was good news, with headteacher Frank Ciccotti praising the upper sixth on the improvements made since their AS-Levels.

“Overall, the pass rate at A*-C rose by 15 per centage points and the overall A-Level pass rate was 95 per cent,” he said.

“Looking at all qualifications, including the Welsh Bacc, 82 per cent of students attained at least one qualification at or above grade C and 42 per cent attained at least one qualification at A/A* standard.”

Results in the lower sixth were also better than last year, with a 10 percentage point improvement at A to C, double the number of A grades and an overall pass rate of 86 per cent, with 96 per cent of candidates attaining at least one pass grade at advanced level.

Head of sixth form Jon Jones added that the students had done well in getting to grips with new exam specifications and the proportion of students gaining first choice of university was high, with strong Welsh Bacc outcomes proving important for many applicants.
