Templeton CP School has recently been awarded the Phase 5 of the Healthy Schools Scheme and is now officially on the journey to receive the National Quality Award, the highest level of the scheme.
In recent times the school has worked very hard to introduce numerous healthy schools initiatives including healthy tuck shops, regular daily mile activities and pupil voice activities.
Some of these initiatives have been so successful that the school has been recognised as an example of very good practice.
In this most recent assessment, led by Liz Western, senior public health officer, and accompanied by Clr. Joshua Beynon, the school council provided an in-depth tour of the school and proudly showed the main ways in which the school promotes itself as a healthy place to learn in and enjoy.
As part of this award the school has focused on developing key areas including food and fitness, mental and emotional health and well-being (which includes staff well-being), substance use and misuse, the environment and safety.
Headteacher Kevin Phelps said: “We were obviously delighted to receive this award. Promoting healthy lifestyles is something that we are totally committed to, so well done to the whole school community. Our practices are now deeply embedded into the life of the school and everyone benefits greatly. We are really grateful to Liz Western for her continuing support, advice and fantastic support and to Clr. Joshua Beynon who has shown a real interest in the development of our school. A final thank you to Mrs. Sharon Logan, our healthy schools leader, for her hard work throughout this process.”
