Pembrokeshire’s primary school pupils are set for a culinary tour this term after the new Lennie the Leek Summer Menu for school was launched.

The young students will be able to get a taste of the Wild West and the fantastically named Mexican Madness alongside time-honoured themed dishes such as Back to School which is the traditional gravy dinner.

Bronco Beans and Ranch Style Burgers make up the Wild West, while chicken enchiladas and mixed vegetable chilli is part of the Mexican Madness experience.

Ingredients for the dishes are purchased from Welsh suppliers with eight out of the nine suppliers are based in Pembrokeshire.

The sausages and grills are purchased from Preseli Gold in Fishguard and the meat is supplied by a local butcher - Andrew Rees and Sons in Narberth.

Fresh salad or vegetables and fresh fruit are available each day.

“School dinners provide a nutritious two-course meal and are the ideal option to encourage children to eat healthier,” said the cabinet member for education and safeguarding, Clr. Sue Perkins.

“A lot of thought goes in to producing these menus and the themed days are designed to make children excited about trying different foods that are healthy and nutritious and I’ve no doubt this menu will do that.

“They may even be inspired to take up cooking themselves but they will definitely get a taste of cuisines from around the world.”
