Pembrokeshire College is proud to launch its Employment Bureau, a recruitment service to help young people find work. Local employers, such as the National Trust, Tesco, Happy Days nursery, St. Brides Hotel, Allt yr Afon, Associated Healthcare, Morganstone, Consort and WRW Construction came along to find out about the Employment Bureau.

The College’s Employability team were established in 2010 and have since placed over 800 people into work. The team has now evolved into a recruitment service, the Employment Bureau, which not only advertises job vacancies, but also provides college students help with CV writing, interview skills, work experience placements and job searching.

Level 3 Health and Social Care student, Adam Rees sought help from the Employment Bureau when he applied for a part-time job with Homebase.

“The team helped me prepare for my interview and pointed out the skills I already have that make me employable,” he said. “I was really pleased when I got the job, even though I’m a full-time student I feel more independent now that I have a few hours of work a week.”

Fellow student, Billie-Jo Jay said that the work experience sessions arranged by the Employment Bureau had given her a flavour of life after college.

“I have experienced caring in a community setting and as a befriender on a paediatric ward. It gave me invaluable experience and helped me to decide to study a degree in Psychology when I finish college,” she stated.

The Employment Bureau is a free service which sources both part-time and full-time vacancies and apprenticeships, reaching Pembrokeshire College’s cohort of over 1,500 students who will soon be able to use a new mobile App to help them decide on their next steps.

Employment Bureau consultant, Jen Dyer was pleased with the launch, commenting: “We were delighted that so many local employers came to find out about the Bureau. We have great students and they don’t realise how employable they are! It’s so rewarding to see them succeed after giving them a nudge in the right direction.”
