At the Holy Eucharist service at St. Mary’s Church on Sunday, Rector Andrew Grace was delighted to welcome Mrs. Gill John, supported by several of her staff.
For the past 19 years, Mrs. John has been the headteacher of Tenby VC Infants’ School and has also carried out the role of executive head of St. Florence Primary School and, currently, Brynconin Primary School.
With the formation of a new English medium primary school in Tenby, due to open this September, Tenby Infants’ School will sadly ring its bell and close its doors for the final time at the end of term, next week.
The building itself is due to be demolished at the beginning of August.
Many in the local community are saddened to see the demise of this wonderful school, holding so many special memories of excellent education, happiness, all encircling care and much loved staff.
Rector Andrew spoke warmly and with admiration about the vital role which Mrs. John has undertaken at the school and the great regard in which she and her staff are held.
In response, Mrs. John expressed her thanks for the support always given by church members and clergy from the benefice and about the countless positive aspects of her job throughout the past 19 years. She also voiced her personal belief that many new and exciting educational experiences were going to unfold at the new primary school and that we must look forward with a positive and confident mind set.
Prayers were then offered by Rev. Alex Grace, in which she asked for God’s love and his blessing for Mrs. John for all she has accomplished and for the years which lie ahead. A beautiful bouquet of flowers was presented to Mrs. John and the very best wishes of the entire benefice conveyed to her.
