Undergraduate students from Pembrokeshire are being encouraged to apply for a scholarship from the Port of Milford Haven.
The annual scholarship scheme was launched this week and offers four awards of £1,500, plus a four-week work placement in the summer of 2016. The scheme is now in its 13th year and has helped almost 60 students from the county with their studies.
Previous winners have found the work experience to be a hugely valuable part of the scholarship award, as students are placed within departments relevant to their degree course and personal interests.
Danielle Rowe, who has just completed her placement at the Port, recommends the scheme.
She said: “The scholarship programme was enjoyable and beneficial from beginning to end. I was assigned to the engineering department on a project that was insightful and interesting, as it showed how the knowledge I had obtained over my first year at university could be applied in real world situations. Overall the Port’s scholarship scheme is a fantastic opportunity as it provides you with financial help and gives you invaluable experience in a working environment, setting you up for post university life.”
To be eligible to apply, students must have attended a secondary school in Pembrokeshire and be on an undergraduate degree course at a British university. Applications must be completed online by Friday, October 16, at www.mhpa.co.uk/scholarships
