Tavernspite School pupil Martha was recently awarded a Blue Peter badge after writing a letter including illustrations to the show.
Her letter included information about her family, school and her love and work with animals and the environment, including her activities on the Eco Council supporting Fairtrade.
The presenters were so impressed with her letter that they wrote in response thanking Martha who was surprised and excited to receive a Blue, Blue Peter badge with the letter.
Blue Peter has been on TV for over 60 years and is still popular with young viewers. The Blue, Blue Peter badges are awarded to children who send in interesting letters, stories, makes, pictures, poems, good ideas for the programme, and for having appeared on Blue Peter.
Martha hopes to gain further badges as there are a total of eight Blue Peter badges to be collected. The different colour badges are awarded for writing reviews of the show, for special achievements in sports, music and helping the environment. There are also very rare Gold Blue Peter badges, awarded in exceptional circumstances for outstanding achievements, for example being solely responsible for saving someone’s life, or showing amazing and unique bravery, courage and citizenship.
Head teacher of Tavernspite School, Mr. Phelps, and Fairtrade Ambassador and class teacher Mrs. Houghton were pleased and impressed with Martha’s award.
Sharron Hardwick Fair Trade In Football Campaign founder. said: “Martha is an active member of the Tavernspite School Eco council and a big Fairtrade supporter. We are pleased to see that her achievements and hard work have been rewarded by Blue Peter and hope to see Martha gaining the Green Blue Peter badge for her Eco work too.”
Blue Peter Badge winners gain free entry into over 200 UK attractions, including the National Botanic Garden of Wales, and Martha is looking forward to hopefully visiting some of these with her family.
