Youngsters at Tenby Playgroup have been presented with a Gold award in recognition of their commitment to the Designed to Smile National Oral Health Improvement Programme.
The programme focuses on improving the oral hygiene of children by encouraging daily tooth brushing within the setting and the application of fluoride varnish.
Tara Gover, Hywel Dda’s Designed to Smile co-ordinator, said: “We have always been impressed with the level of support that Yvonne, Tenby playgroup’s manager, and her team have provided to the children. Not only have they embedded the tooth brushing well, but they have championed the All Wales Healthy Pre School Scheme, ensuring children’s care is provided in a safe and thriving environment. The local community are fortunate to have this playgroup available with such enthusiastic staff!”
Nationally Designed to Smile is seeing good results, with a 12 per cent decrease in levels of dental decay in children. Along with sensible dietary habits, tooth brushing goes a long way to preventing caries.
