The fight to save Narberth library was raised at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council.
Fearing the worst for the future of the St. James Street facility, Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees asked members to consider options for retaining the service in the town.
She suggested forming a group of volunteers to man the library, with an expert librarian provided by Pembrokeshire County Council for a set number of hours in a set period.
In addition, she also suggested an independent group be formed to appeal to the local authority for a peppercorn rent deal on the building. That group would then be responsible for its upkeep and could possibly look at amalgamating other services within it.
“We must ensure that our library carries on going,” said Clr. Mrs. Rees.
“A lot of people depend on it and I would hate to see it go.”
