The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Kirsty Williams AM, made a fact-finding visit to Monkton Priory School in Pembroke last Thursday.
Mrs. Williams was specifically interested in the ‘Launch Adult Learning’ project which provides adult education to Monkton residents.
She was also told how the scheme had made a positive impact on the local gypsy traveller community.
Headteacher, Shelley Morris, gave a presentation on the courses offered and the effect they had on pupil attendance and attainment.
Claire Arnold - a class teacher in the Priory Learning Centre for gypsy traveller pupils - and Rosemary Probert - a higher level teaching assistant at Pembroke School - spoke to the cabinet secretary about their experiences.
Other past and current students also had the opportunity to meet her.
The Cabinet Secretary praised the school for providing the opportunities in the community and the learners for returning to education and enjoying successful outcomes.
Mrs. Williams was accompanied by David Hagendyk, director of the Learning and Work Institute in Wales.
