Pembrokeshire College equine lecturer, Michael Butcher attended The Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in May to recognise the excellent work he does with learners who have a wide range of physical or learning difficulties.

Every year, The Queen hosts four parties to celebrate and reward public service. Joined by Prince Philip, HRH Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Pembrokeshire College’s Michael Butcher had the opportunity to speak to the Royals and to a broad range of people from all walks of life, all of whom have made a positive impact on their community.

A UK FE Pearson Teaching Award winner, Michael was presented with the gold Plato award for teaching by HRH Princess Anne earlier this year and featured on the BBC documentary ‘Britain’s Classroom Heroes’.

Based in the college’s equine centre, Michael works primarily with learners who have a wide variety of difficulties.

“It fills me with pride to have been recognised for the work I love doing,” he said. “I am incredibly lucky to be in a position to help inspire learners’ ambitions.”

Royal Garden Parties have been held at Buckingham Palace since the 1860s and have become a tradition in recognising those who play a big part in their communities. Congratulations Michael!
