A selection of final year degree work by Pembrokeshire College students has recently been displayed in the Tower Gallery at Oriel y Parc, St. Davids.

A selection of eclectic work ranging from fine art, textile and fashion design were showcased at Oriel y Parc throughout June, following Pembrokeshire College’s end of year student art show.

Third year BA (Hons) Design students, Carol Fletcher, Indira Mukerji and Karen Hunter along with Tunde Komar and Victoria Taylor from the second year, worked on their own selected themes, taking inspiration from the Pembrokeshire landscape, strata, Celtic patterning, wasps nests and gender equality.

Senior lecturer at Pembrokeshire College, Julia Rees, congratulated the group on their exhibition.

“A range of media has been used to convey their ideas; students’ own textile prints have been carried through into fashion design,” she said. “Traditional macramé skills have been brought into the 21st century as shown through the fashion garment. Fine art work has been depicted through 3D sculptures and glass work and the delicate forms of the wasp nest have been recreated using a range of constructed textiles techniques. Well done to everyone involved.”

An exhibition of creative work by A-level students studying Art and Photography along with Art and Design, Fashion and Textiles Design, Graphic Design, Interactive Media and the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design were also showcased at the college this summer.

Pembrokeshire College inspires student creativity, having an impressive track record at the regional Urdd Eisteddfod, winning seven first prizes and a further 11 medals at the national Eisteddfod final in May.
