Show your support for primary pupils in Carmarthenshire this May as they take on the challenge of running their own businesses for a day.

Organised by Carmarthenshire County Council in partnership with Llanelli Town Council and Llanelli Community Partnership, the Junior Traders Competition is an annual event that gives schools across Carmarthenshire the chance to experience what it’s like to be a market trader.

Each team will receive £150 in start-up funds, provided by local sponsors, to buy materials or products to sell at their stall.

The team that makes the most profit on the day wins. There will also be a prize for the best-presented stall.

The Carmarthenshire Junior Traders Competition 2025 will take place at:

  • Carmarthen Town Centre – Wednesday, 21 May
  • Llanelli Town Centre – Thursday, 22 May
  • Ammanford Town Centre – Friday, 23 May

Stalls will be located near the main market areas in each town, with trading taking place from 10am to 1.30pm at all locations.

Each school team will plan their own product or service, manage their budget, and set up their stall. Pupils will learn key business skills, including budgeting, negotiating prices, and presenting to customers.

Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs, Community Cohesion and Planning Policy, Cllr Carys Jones said: “This competition is a fantastic way to spark entrepreneurial ambition in our young people. By giving them the tools and space to try their ideas in a real market setting, we’re helping build the future business leaders of Carmarthenshire.

“I’m excited to see the creativity and innovation that our pupils will bring to the high streets.”
