Edmund Hartzell, the virtuoso double bassist from Saundersfoot, has been awarded a post graduate teaching scholarship to the prestigious Baylor University in Texas.
As well as teaching and studying for the next two years, he'll be performing with various orchestras in Texas. The scholarship is worth over $40,000 a year.
Edmund was a cathedral chorister, before winning a place at the Yehudi Menuhin School in 1998.
He was awarded a Foundation Scholarship to the Royal College of Music in 2006, and a postgraduate scholarship to Trinity Laban Conservatoire in 2010.
He has won a number of awards and prizes, performed at St. James' Palace in London in 2010. He was finalist in the Texaco Young Musician of Wales in 2005.
Edmund's parents are Peter and Jan Hartzell from Saundersfoot. Jan teaches classical and jazz piano privately and has previously taught in Kent and London.
Edmund said: "I'm so delighted to have this exciting opportunity to study in the States.
"I shall be studying with Professor Sandor Ostlund. He's also worked with Francois Rabbath in Paris, with whom I've also studied and performed in master classes."
He added: "I shall miss Saundersfoot and hope I won't feel too homesick."
