WHITLAND 28 YSTRADGYNLAIS 12
Whitland entertained Ystradgynlais at Parc Ty Gwyn on Saturday, looking to maintain their fine start to the new National League division two campaign.
And they did not disappoint their supporters, producing another excellent display which sees them still unbeaten after their opening four matches.
The Borderers opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a well worked try by fullback Wayne Lewis. It came from a scrum on the 25-yard line, with scrum-half Robert Phillips working the blind side before sending Lewis bursting over for the touchdown.
Outside-half Daniel Griffiths added the extras with a successful conversion.
Ystrad's outside-half Paul Davies kicked two penalties, with his opposite number Griffiths successful with one out of two to give Whitland a half-time lead of 10-6.
Two minutes into the second half Whitland extended their lead when second-row David Ebsworth crashed over for his first try. Prop Dai Jones was the instigator as he took a quick penalty before passing on to winger Richard Harries. When he was held up just short, Ebsworth was on hand to take the pass and score.
This time Griffiths failed with the conversion attempt.
Again, Ystrad's number 10 Paul Davies added two penalties, with Griffiths replying with one, before Whitland put the game out of reach when Ebsworth scored his second try, converted by Griffiths.
Griffiths also added another penalty in the 38th minute to give a final score of 28-12 to the Borderers.
