Residents living within the East Williamston community are now better prepared for slippery pavements and roads caused by icy weather conditions.
Six grit bins have been purchased by East Williamston Community Council, which also includes Wooden, Pentlepoir and Broadmoor within its boundary, following difficulties caused by the frosty winters in recent years.
The locations of the grit bins were chosen by the community council, with further scope to introduce additional bins in the future. Key-holders who live close to each of the bins have been appointed after being approached by the council, which will allow for the grit to be accessible for local residents to use as and when the need arises.
"There are many groups of houses in our community that are accessed by roads not serviced by Pembrokeshire County Council's gritting lorries," said Clr. Jacob Williams. "Although this winter hasn't been an icy one so far, we look upon this as a sound investment that will help our residents for many years to come - as long as they remember to provide their own shovel!"
