Confirmation of the closure, on 31 August 2007, of Pentlepoir School, was received by members of East Williamston Community Council, in a letter from the director of education at this month's meeting. Sadly, council had to concede there was nothing further they could do to prevent this. The situation concerning some properties in East Williamston regarding access over the village green had now been clarified and occupiers of affected properties would receive a letter of explanation shortly. Repairs to both play areas had now been completed and the equipment was back in full use in time for the school holidays. The directional sign for the Community Hall had been ordered and would be erected by Pembrokeshire County Council as and when received. It is understood that work on the mains sewerage scheme was scheduled to commence in January 2007. Following the unsuccessful efforts of the council to secure a reduction in the speed limit through Cold Inn and East Williamston, council would continue to press for the reduction and would invite any resident to support the project, particularly as a further play area was scheduled to be sited in the Jubilee Park by the end of the year Council supported Milford Haven Town Council in their fight to retain Pembrokeshire's local firefighting capabilities. Acknowledgement of the requirement for the widening of the footway adjacent to Summerhill, Pentlepoir, was received from Pembrokeshire County Council. However, it was unlikely that work would commence before early 2007. A planning application for consideration was received for construction of one dormer bungalow at The Burgage, Pentlepoir. Planning application decisions granted by Pembrokeshire County Council were as follows: 05/ 0083/PA Hill Cottage, Pentlepoir; 06/0156/PA Sacremento, East Williamston; 06/0098/PA The Anchorage, East Williamston; 05/1524/PA Ashlea, Broadmoor; 05/1633/PA Evening Star Bungalow, Pentlepoir; 06/0237/PA Sea Spray, Valley Road, Pentlepoir; 06/0198/PA Play Area, Valley Road, Pentlepoir; 06/0239/PA Old Farm, East Williamston; 05/0332/PA Hillcroft, Pentlepoir. An application, 06/0217/PA Brierley, Pentlepoir, was refused. The destruction of an historic feature (ie the Brick Tap) in Station Road, Pentlepoir, during a recent session of hedge trimming by the Pembrokeshire County Council had been reported and it was hoped it would be restored to its original state in due course. It was with sadness that council had received the resignation of Clr. Donald Beynon, owing to work commitments. Donald had given many years of valuable service to the community and his contributions to council will be sorely missed. The next full meeting of council will take place on Thursday, September 7, at 7.30 pm in East Williamston Community Hall.
