The October meeting of the East Williamston Community and Hall Association committee took place on Monday and members heard that yet another successful quiz had been held, with five teams enjoying the questions set by Sian Beynon and posed by Daphne Gwyther. The winning team had very kindly donated its cash prize back to hall funds. The next quiz will take place on October 13, with John Fountain as quizmaster. As usual, everyone is warmly invited to come and share in the fun, bar open at 7.30, questions beginning at 8 pm and a raffle at half-time. It is still only £2 per person to enter and both groups and individuals are encouraged to come and join in and share an evening with neighbours and friends.
The Jubilee Park and Nature Trail in East Williamston village is busier than ever, with many dog walkers enjoying the amenity. A few individuals are still refusing to clean up after their pets, but most users are very public spirited, and mindful of the fact that the park is also used by children. An enthusiastic number of young people from Pembrokeshire College have worked very hard strimming and clearing the tree islands and the gardening club members are very keen to meet there this month to continue the maintenance and also to plant foxgloves. Sheep are currently grazing the wild flower meadow, which helps to ensure that it will bloom again next year.
Jubilee Park and Nature Trail is part of the Queen Elizabeth II Fields in Trust scheme, which protects leisure facilities such as ours for posterity. Currently, there is a Love Your Field competition in progress, where local people can vote for their favourite open space. It would be wonderful if all who use Jubilee Park could vote for it, which must be before the closing date of October 19. This can be done easily online, as follows: Log onto http://www.qe2fields.com">www.qe2fields.com and then enter the postcode SA70 8RU into the postcode box on the purple background and press 'enter'. A list of West Wales parks in the scheme will come up, and you just click on the green box with the red heart and the words 'YOUR FIELD' next to ours. All parks voted for will receive a commemorative plaque and a Royal Oak sapling. Please do take time to vote, as the winning park will receive a 'most loved field' award.
A group of volunteers will shortly be painting the outside of the community hall and the committee is also discussing the plans for Christmas, when it is hoped that the usual lighted tree will be placed outside.
Meanwhile, a day of tuition on breadmaking is being arranged and anyone interested should 'phone the secretary on (01834) 813778.
The East Williamston News website will shortly be updated after the summer break and can be accessed on http://www.eastwilliamstonnews.co.uk">www.eastwilliamstonnews.co.uk
