The management committee of East Williamston Community and Hall Association met on Monday evening and members were delighted with a number of items of positive news.
East Williamston Gardening Club has continued to spend one afternoon a month doing clearing and tidying works in Jubilee Park, which has been much appreciated, and there was talk of supplying community-funded tools to facilitate the jobs. The club's help is to be sought to site some new bird, bat and insect boxes in suitable locations.
The new chief executive of PLANED has recently been shown around the park and was very impressed with the whole area, which continues to be much visited and enjoyed by local people.
The association secretary reported that Pembrokeshire College environmental students would again be using the site to learn and enhance their practical skills and have plans to clear and improve the ponds.
The community allotments are to be marked with signs during the autumn, prior to officially opening them.
Bookings for the community hall continue to increase, with dog training classes being held every Friday evening when outdoor activities are cancelled due to bad weather.
A bingo club has been warmly welcomed to hold two sessions each week, on Wednesday and Sunday nights from 7.30-9.30 pm, and committee members will man the bar on a rotor system. The children's club, whose membership has declined as the youngsters have grown up, will be held monthly rather than weekly for the present.
A noticeboard has been sited outside the hall to publicise upcoming events and one will be placed in the village bus shelter for items of local interest. The stained glass panel from the former Pentlepoir School will be positioned in a lit showcase in the hall foyer, as a historical reminder of this once prominent and significant establishment in the lives of so many in the area.
The August quiz evening attracted four teams, in spite of the busy holiday month; Daphne and Caryl were warmly thanked for their excellent job as quizmasters. The September quiz will take place tomorrow (Saturday), with Sîan Beynon setting the questions. Doors and bar open at 7.30, the quiz begins at 8 pm and all are very welcome to come and share the fun, either as a team or individuals to join a group on arrival. It is still only £2 per person to take part, the usual raffle will add to the occasion and it is a very friendly and enjoyable way to spend an evening. Why not come and see for yourself?
