The July meeting of East Williamston Community and Hall Association took place on Monday, July 2, and members expressed themselves very pleased with the success of the special Jubilee quiz evening three weeks earlier, which was well-attended and enjoyed by everyone.

The appropriately decorated hall and free barbecue all added to the spirit of the occasion. Thanks were extended to quiz setters Sian and Tracy and to all who helped to prepare the delicious food.

The Jubilee Park allotments are now showing signs of early cultivation and a rotivator and plough have been acquired, water tanks and a pump are established and there are plans for a compost toilet on site. A sign will be placed at the gateway to announce the presence of the allotments. The park itself now has two extra picnic tables, which have been moved from their former positions on the paths down from the common. The committee heard that the Family Tree Foundation has removed a number of smaller sites from its list, one of them being theirs, but the memorial book is still being kept and trees may still be planted in memory of special people or events (not necessarily just bereavements) by direct arrangement with the committee.

Future events in the hall include a private party, a church treasure hunt on August 31, a chutney and jam making day on September 29, a church brass band concert on November 11 and junior bowls on November 25. There is also the possibility of a bakery session being discussed.

Before any of these take place, however, there is another quiz evening in store. This will be held tomorrow (Saturday), with the ladies from the 'Hot Gossip' team setting the questions. As usual, hall and bar open at 7.30, the quiz begins at 8 pm, charge for entry is just £2 per person and all are welcome to join in the fun. A raffle will be drawn at half-time.
