At the June meeting of the East Williamston Community and Hall Association, committee members discussed the on-going improvement to the Jubilee Park and Nature Trail.  The park continues to give a great deal of pleasure to all sections of the community, with children enjoying the playground and freedom to roam, nature-lovers admiring the wildlife and ever-changing scenery and dog-walkers and their pets appreciating the many pathways and large open grass field. The map of the area has now been reinstated, following its repair after thoughtless vandalism, and further information boards will be placed near the Family Tree Scheme and the play area, the former most kindly sponsored by Chevron.  The power transformer for the new East Williamston village sewage pumping station was originally due to be sited on the Green, but negotiations have secured an agreement that the power lines will not be suspended above the park but, instead, buried underground, as long as the Community Association digs the required trench. Two more grants have been received to help improve the park further and, on June 30, the Countryside Council for Wales will run a project entitled 'Wildlife on your Patch', when volunteers will record the flora and fauna on the site. A number of people have already registered their interest in supporting this project, but a few extra helpers may be needed, so anyone interested in further details is asked to contact the association secretary, Ian Wilkinson, on 01834 813778. It had been hoped that the Jubilee Park and Nature Trail would shortly be officially opened by TV celebrity Iolo Williams but, due to the disruption caused by the sewage pipe installation in the locality, all arrangements have been 'put on hold' at present. The Wednesday yoga classes in the Community Hall have ceased for the summer, but are due to resume in September.  Meanwhile, the hall continues to be well supported by the St. Elidyr Bowls Club and has been the venue for a wedding party and another of the highly successful Quiz Evenings. The next quiz will take place on the evening of June 30, 7.30 for 8 pm, with the usual bar to add to the enjoyment of the occasion. Anyone unaware of how to find the Community Hall can now follow the new road signs and then identify the building itself by the recently installed board, a replacement for the former lettering, which youngsters thought it humorous to frequently rearrange! The next Community Newsletter will be compiled shortly and contributors are asked to please start preparing their articles, which should ideally be emailed to the editor at [email protected]">[email protected] or sent to her at Braeside, East Williamston.
